Tap Blues

 

Technique: Fretted Strum 
Tuning: Guitar
Sound: Twangy Electric
App: Logic Pro X

 

  • Connect the INSTRUMENT 1 to your Mac
  • Open the INSTRUMENT 1 Editor, and Logic Pro X.
  • In the INSTRUMENT 1 Editor, keep the INSTRUMENT 1 on its default setting, Guitar, which is a Fretted Strum technique.
  • Turn the Hammer-On Sensitivity to “Tap”
  • Turn String Bending to “On”

 

To get String Bend to work properly, you’ll need to adjust the MIDI Mono Mode and Pitch Range in ESX 24.

  • Create a new software instrument track with the Twangy Electric sound
  • Open ESX24
  • Change the MIDI Mono Mode to On (With common base channel 16)
  • Change the Pitch Range to 24

Arp Banjo

Technique: Fretted Strum 
Tuning: 5-string Banjo
Sound: Bluegrass Banjo
App: GarageBand or Logic Pro X
    This video features two playing techniques: the opening playing is done with a simple fretted strum technique without the added arpeggiator. When the knob is pressed, a similar preset is selected that has the instrument’s built-in arpeggiator enabled. 
  • Connect the INSTRUMENT 1 to your Mac
  • Select the Banjo 5 String tuning in the INSTRUMENT 1 Editor

 

  • Open either Logic Pro X or GarageBand
  • Select Bluegrass Banjo 
  • To achieve the auto-plucking technique, enable Arpeggiator in the Preset Settings in the Editor.

 

  • To make it easy to cycle between different presets like this, save the presets and drag them onto your INSTRUMENT 1.

  • Connect the INSTRUMENT 1 to your Mac
  • Select the Guitar preset on your INSTRUMENT 1

  • Create a Fretless Bow preset and choose Guitar tuning

  • Connect the INSTRUMENT 1 to your Mac
  • Open the INSTRUMENT 1 Editor
  • Create a Tapped Grid Preset and choose the Guitar tuning
  • Change the Bridge tuning to the tuning shown below (Kick, Snare, Closed Hat, Open Hat, Ride, Crash)

D&B editor

  • Open Logic Pro X
  • Create two instrument tracks. Set one to Drums and the other to a Synth
  • On the Drums track, add a Transposer to the MIDI FX.
  • Transpose up 12 semitones

Transposer Arrows

  • Under the Drum’s track settings, set the upper Key Limit D#1

  • If you want the synth to be a bass, add a Transposer to its MIDI FX and transpose down 12 semitones.
  • In the Synth’s track settings, set the lower Key Limit to E2.
  • Now record enable both tracks to play drums on the Bridge and synth on the Fingerboard.

Tilt–a–Synth

Technique: Slider Bass
Tuning: Six String Bass
Sound: After the Snow
App: GarageBand (using Alchemy)

 

  • Connect the INSTRUMENT 1 to your Mac
  • Open the INSTRUMENT 1 Editor
  • Choose User Preset 2: Slider Bass
  • Or create a new Fretless Slide Preset and choose the Bass Guitar tuning
