Community Roundup - August '17
School may be back in session, but it still feels like summer to us! The Artiphon community brought the heat in August with some brilliant finger-drumming videos, waterfront jam sessions, analog synths, and even a cat friend or two! Scroll on to view this month's Community Roundup, and be sure to tag us @Artiphon on social media – you may even see yourself in a future roundup!
Beat This: Finger-drumming with The Phronetic on the INSTRUMENT 1
A few weeks back, finger-drumming phenom Alejandro a.k.a The Phronetic laid down some excellent down-tempo beats on the INSTRUMENT 1 to wind down the summer (showing off the instrument's tap drums preset and tilt modulation in style). At only 23 years young, this talented producer is also the mind behind the popular @producercity Instagram account, and we personally can't get enough of his lightning-fast reflexes and equally electric spirit here in the office. Click on over to his YouTube channel and personal Instagram account, if you want to see more for yourself!

Tech Tunes with Taryn Southern (ft. Tiggie the Cat)
From beats to the sheets, August also saw this feline-ominal cover of Julia Michaels' "Issues" by singer-songwriter and technology enthusiast Taryn Southern, as part of her new Tech Tunes series. Might this be the first Artiphon INSTRUMENT 1 performance dedicated to a kitty? We believe so (and wish these two nothing but the best)! Be sure to check out this recent interview with The Verge detailing Taryn's awesome forthcoming artificial intelligence album, and listen to the first single, "Break Free," on YouTube, as well as iTunes, Spotify, and Apple Music.
An Ableton Live Beat Performance by Taetro
Earlier in the month, we were treated to some cool ambient vibes from Taetro's latest live beat performance on the INSTRUMENT 1. Featuring Ableton Live integration and some excellent drone work on the waterfront, this one has stayed in rotation for many weeks now. For more performances and tutorials, fly on over to his YouTube channel. We can't wait to see where Taetro's musical journey takes him next!
Analog + Digital Together In Harmony: INSTRUMENT 1 Jam with Leo Islo
August also delivered some funk-fueled goodness in the form of Leo Islo's recent jam session on the INSTRUMENT 1. Love this pairing with the Oberheim Matrix 6R rack synthesizer + Ableton Live (and the Pamplemousse, of course)! Playing a synth with traditional guitar tunings has never been easier or more intuitive, thanks to the INSTRUMENT 1's guitar preset. Follow Leo over on Instagram and YouTube for more!
First little jam with the @artiphon #INSTRUMENT1 . Running through #ableton into a 1986 #Oberheim Matrix 6R rack synth (that black boxy thing in front of my face). Playing synth like guitar is pretty chill. 🤘#pamplemousse

Lauren Turk's Cover of The Americans
The talented musician, performance artist, and music educator, Lauren Turk, recently recorded this beautiful cover of The Americans' "I'll Be Yours." In the comments section on her original Instagram post, Lauren reveals how this particular song captivated her musical ambitions that were then translated via the INSTRUMENT 1. We love her story, and we're so thrilled to see the INSTRUMENT 1 being used to expand creative horizons!

"I have resisted learning the guitar my whole life. It always felt awkward because of my 12 years of violin. But last month I shared a bill with The Americans for an Obey Amplifier Foundation pop up music night, and I heard them play "I'll Be Yours" and it completely arrested me. I had the song on repeat and felt like a teenager all over again. I was so obsessed with the song that I looked up the chords. It didn't feel right on piano, and luckily, I have the Artiphon INSTRUMENT 1... I am *finally* learning guitar thanks to you! And thank you The Americans for writing a song that is so hauntingly beautiful it moved me out of my guitar complacency."
– Lauren Turk
If you haven't already heard, the INSTRUMENT 1 has also added another accessible guitar technique with the newest Artiphon app update – Smart Strum (see it in action, and get the update at downloads.artiphon.com).
And as always, be sure to check out the Community Performances playlist on YouTube for more awesome submissions from INSTRUMENT 1 players around the world, and join the conversation over on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. We can’t wait to see what all you will create in September, so be sure to tag @Artiphon and the #INSTRUMENT1 on socials!
