Community Roundup – September '17
September has officially ushered in the fall, and along with the changing weather, a harvest of great videos from INSTRUMENT 1 players around the world. This month also saw the release of our newest feature for the INSTRUMENT 1 – Smart Strum – an intuitive way to strum along with songs and play chords with the touch of a finger. Learn more about Smart Strum here, and check out all of this month’s awesome community talent below!
artiphon sessions: sun brother
Nashville-based singer-songwriter, Billy Toulson (aka Sun Brother), recently dropped by the Artiphon office and shared his beautiful new song "Words" with the team on the INSTRUMENT 1. In just a few moments, he was layering a strummed piano track, shimmering synths, and a warm bass line to bring it all together. Keep watching for that stunning orchestral crescendo, and many thanks for sharing your music with us, Billy! Listen to more from Sun Brother on iTunes, Spotify, Soundcloud, and Bandcamp.
a meeting of ill minds featuring !llmind
September also saw a meeting of minds in New York City between Artiphon co-founder Jacob Gordon and Grammy nominated multi-platinum hip-hop producer, !llmind. Ramon Ibanga, Jr., better known as !llmind, took time out of his busy schedule producing tracks for such artists as Kanye West, Drake, and J. Cole and showed up (with a cameraman) to film his first contact with the INSTRUMENT 1. Track !llmind on social media (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter) and tune in to his day-to-day hustle in the YouTube series, BLAP:CAM. Also listen to this week's NPR story on how he changed the game with sample packs.
The INSTRUMENT 1 on-STAGE: Marillion cover by Nate ottë
Nate Ottë also graced the stage at a local open-mic earlier in September with his INSTRUMENT 1 and performed a stirring cover of "Number One" by the British prog-rock band Marillion. Here, Nate is using the instrument's guitar preset and a traditional guitar tuning to strum a piano sound. Be sure to check out Nate's other INSTRUMENT 1 covers on YouTube, and learn about the INSTRUMENT 1's various presets and ways to play here.
A MULTI-INSTRUMENT Fit for multi-instrumentalists: "Étude no. 1" cover by Charlie Rosen
With NYC continuing to represent in this month's roundup, multi-instrumentalist Charlie Rosen also put in some quality time with the INSTRUMENT 1. The New York-based producer/arranger/and composer stepped off-Broadway a couple weeks back for this beautiful rendition of the classical piece, "Étude No. 1" by Heitor Villa-Lobos, and it completely blew us away. If you like what you see and hear, you won't want to miss Charlie's side project, #TeamChuck, as well and give him a follow on Instagram for more awesome music.
And as always, be sure to check out the Community Performances playlist on YouTube for more inspiring submissions from the Artiphon extended family, and follow us over on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to stay in the loop. We can’t wait to see what you will create next month, so be sure to tag @Artiphon and the #INSTRUMENT1 on social media!
