Orba is a handheld synth, looper, and MIDI controller that lets anyone make music immediately. With Orba’s integrated looper you can layer Drum, Bass, Chord, and Lead parts to create beats and songs on the fly. Play through the built-in speaker or use the ⅛” jack to connect headphones or amplifiers. Pair wirelessly to the Orba app to customize your instrument and share your creations with friends.

Orba’s touch and motion sensors combine to capture even the most subtle micro-movements. The playing surface features eight highly touch-sensitive pads, and Orba has ten core gestures: Tap, Press, Spin, Radiate, Tilt, Shake, Slide, Vibrato, Move, and Bump. Each gesture can be used to control the onboard synth engine or your MIDI music software of choice.

Smart Device Technology

Artiphon designed Orba with inspiration from traditional instruments, classic synthesizers, household objects, and modern mobile devices. The capacitive-sensing pads, haptic engine, and LED feedback incorporate the latest in mobile and gaming-controller technology. Orba features a proprietary on-board synth engine which includes sound design by esteemed DJ and engineer Richard Devine.

MIDI Control

Use Orba to control your MIDI-based software and hardware instruments (via USB-C or wirelessly via Bluetooth MIDI). Use Orba with GarageBand, Ableton Live, Logic Pro X, Pro Tools, Cubase, FL Studio, as well as any MIDI-compatible mobile app. Orba is fully compliant with the new standard for MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE), making it capable of multiple independent note expressions.

Artiphon is revolutionizing how we approach and create music, and I'm ecstatic!

Artiphon is truly innovative. It's so refreshing to have such new and creative ways to make music. Tools like ORBA and Instrument 1 have allowed me to think outside the box and come up with music I probably never would have before. They also allow me to perform in interesting ways that are a treat not only for me, but also my audience.

I also enjoy how I've come to engage these instruments on a more casual basis, such as at my desk or sitting on the couch, without feeling limited by the plateau I've reached on my traditional instruments or feel like I should be doing a rigorous practice session before making music. I can just create effortlessly, without any personal or societal pressure. I'll also add that using both the ORBA and Instrument 1 in my studio for professional music creation has been equally amazing. I love how they've breathed new life into my virtual instruments and effects, enabling a whole new level of recording and expression! The build quality of both products is top notch!

Artiphon is a great little company, with big ideas and the dedication to follow through. Their support is great and their product sustainment (updates) are more frequent and customer-driven than many other MI companies. They've been very communicative and transparent, both with Kickstarter campaigns and in general.

I look forward to seeing, and of course playing, any new instruments or concepts that Artiphon comes up with in the future! I'm sure it'll be just as mind-blowing and life-changing for me and many other musicians who enjoy embracing new tools to progress musical expression.

First impressions of the Orba

First impression of the Orba? Charming. Turning the Orba on and playing the first few beats brought a smile to my face.

Doing the more complex stuff, though, that's a different story. But that has less to do with the Orba than with my lack of time, and the number of years it's been since I've played a musical instrument. I took a look at an online tutorial, though, and found it very helpful. Got me started playing with the looping feature. Just need the time now ... sigh

I have both the Artiphon Instrument 1

I have both the Artiphon Instrument 1 and the Orba, Love them. They are exactly as promised and I keep finding new things to do, musically!! When I don't want to pull out a 'real' Instrument, they give me a chance to express or just play along with a tv show, or Work out an idea rattling around in my head!

A fun music machine for all ages

A fun music machine for all ages! Does take a little time to get used to and understand how to operate - but the online videos certainly help. Fun to rock out in the back yard, the car, the bath... just about anywhere!!! :)
