Community Roundup – November ’17

This November brought us together for more than just turkey and stuffing, with a heaping helping of inspiring creations from INSTRUMENT 1 players – from Barcelona to Brooklyn and everywhere in between. We’re incredibly thankful for this terrific community of artists, innovators, and music-makers and can’t wait to see what new works you make next! Keep scrolling for soulful beats, thoughtful reviews, a special collaboration, and even more from the extended Artiphon-iverse.

Shoeg AND The INSTRUMENT (1) HEard Round the World

Earlier in the month, experimental electronic musician Carlos Martorell (aka Shoeg) took the stage on the Barcelona-based music show, Feeel, with the INSTRUMENT 1 in hand. We were completely blown away by Carlos’ performance, and the ambient auteur even gave us some special insight into his live setup – using the INSTRUMENT 1’s Tilt function here (acting as a mod wheel) as a multi-octave chord strummer for harmonic synth goodness, as demonstrated in his first composition! Be sure to mark your calendars for Carlos’ upcoming performances, and don’t forget to keep up with Shoeg over on Twitter for more.

BEHIND THE BEATS W/ TAETRO + Sarah, The !llSTRUMENTALIST

While still recovering from the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, we were also treated to some tasty features from producers Nicholas Tetrault aka Taetro and Sarah Santana better known as Sarah, the !llstrumentalist. See how both artists make music with the INSTRUMENT 1 below, and give Taetro’s holiday gift guide a watch as well, which features the INSTRUMENT 1 alongside some great company from AkaiAbleton, and Blue Microphones. Subscribe to Taetro and Sarah’s channels on YouTube for more awesome musical content.

Wavy VIBES WITH THE PHRONETIC

Beatmaker and producer Alejandro aka The Phronetic is back in November with some “mellow vibez” on the INSTRUMENT 1 which he laid down this month at an in-store performance at AC Gears in New York City. Listen to the laid-back beat above, and watch as The Phronetic expertly builds a track by strumming synth keys with the guitar preset, recording a drum loop in pad mode, and layering atmospheric piano chords using grid mode. Speaking on the benefits of the multi-instrument, Alejandro articulately explains, “The point isn’t to substitute a real guitar. It’s to give producers access to another tool: just like the MPC wasn’t meant to replace a drummer or the MIDI controller wasn’t meant to replace the synth.”

A COMMUNITY OF CREATORS – Artiphon, the INSTRUMENT 1, and You!

And if you haven’t already watched, we recently released a new video made possible by INSTRUMENT 1 players from around the world! We asked a dozen musicians from the Artiphon community to bring their unique styles together into a collaborative creation. From songwriters to string players, rockers to beatmakers, we’re so grateful for an amazing year with truly inspiring people.

As always, be sure to check out the Community Performances playlist on YouTube for more creative submissions from Artiphon artists across the globe and join the conversation over on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter.
