Installing NI Kontakt Player and Factory Selection Library

The Player and NI Factory Selection Library will require a just over one gigabyte of space on your hard drive, so please make sure you have space and a good internet connection. This process will take about 20 minutes. You will be required to make a free user account with Native Instruments to activate the library.

Enter your email and country for both the Kontakt 5 Player and Kontakt Factory Selection. They are on the same page, and you have to scroll down to see the Factory Selection download. Press both buttons that say “Get Download Link.”

You will quickly receive two emails from Native Instruments, they will be in the same email thread. Check your spam folder if you don’t see it. If after five minutes you still don’t have an email please try again with a different email address.

Open the email and press the download link for the NI Kontakt 5 Player first. The NI Factory Selection Library should be downloaded second. Choose PC or Mac based on your platform. This may take a couple minutes.

The detailed installation instructions are now different PC or Mac, so please select your platform.

If you encounter any issues, please see the Common Problems in the next section.

Common Problems

  • Why can I not hear sound after doing all the setup on my PC?

Please make sure the INSTRUMENT 1 editor is not open, then close and reopen one of the Artiphon Kontakt racks. This should fix the issue.

  • I get a “Content Missing” message when trying to open the staff picks instruments.

You may have chosen a custom file path when installing the sound library. Choose to Search Filesystem. Kontakt should be able to find the library in your file system. Save the sessions before exiting so that you won’t have to do this every time the file is opened.

  • The bow method or fretless mode aren’t working right.

Pitch bend and bow mode will only work correctly with the Artiphon Staff Picks instruments. They require specific setup, so these INSTRUMENT 1 techniques will not work correctly with the Factory Selection library.

  • Why doesn’t the sound stop? It keeps playing

The strum method is meant to be used with sounds that naturally decay. If you hit an open string with a sound that does not decay, the sound will keep playing. You can mute a string by pressing that string on the fingerboard or mute all strings by pressing the bridge then releasing.

  • Why does Kontakt say I’m in “DEMO MODE” and stop working after 15 minutes?

The Kontakt Factory Selections Library needs to be activated. Please return to the instructions and activate your library by creating an NI User Account and copying the serial number from the installation email.
