Last month, we invited Max and his father, Larry Baumeister, to tell their inspiring story of Max’s journey through early childhood, where they discovered Max had nonverbal autism. Despite Max being nonverbal, Larry quickly learned that Max had an aptitude for rhythm.
“Sometimes we would go in the car, listen to music…and every once in a while, he would tap on my headset. It was always to the beat of the song.”
When we saw what Max and his father were doing with Ableton, pad controllers, and other traditional instruments, we were curious to learn what this duo would do with our handheld instrument, Orba. After just a couple of weeks with the device, it’s incredible to see how Max has taken to the eight-pad playing surface and how quickly he can switch between modes and discover new sounds on the device.
