The Artiphon INSTRUMENT 1

And the rechargeable battery lasts all day–even when playing at 11.
Play Your Apps With Familiar Techniques
You've already got the best sounds and synths around. More versatile than your keyboard controller, and far more performative than musical typing, the Artiphon INSTRUMENT 1 is here to help unlock your virtual instruments.
The INSTRUMENT 1 is MPE MIDI class-compliant and works with all of your favorite MIDI production software. Whether it's the free Artiphon companion app or your DAW of choice, we've got you covered.
The Artiphon INSTRUMENT 1 is a new kind of digital instrument that adapts to the way you play. It’s the first MIDI controller that lets you strum, slide, tap, and drum any sound on a single interface.
The INSTRUMENT 1 has been designed to be played in multiple positions. A guitarist might hold the instrument like a guitar, or use the available Artiphon INSTRUMENT 1 Strap, while a cellist might enjoy holding the ergonomic instrument body upright. Beatmakers and finger drummers will discover a familiar grid surface when the INSTRUMENT 1 is laid flat. The instrument can even be held like a violin, against the player’s neck.
Want to play a technique you've already mastered? String players of all kinds will find a familiar interface when the INSTRUMENT 1 is tuned like a guitar, bass, cello, violin, banjo, or any other traditional instrument. The ability to tune each string individually is one of many customizations these performers can take advantage of.
And if you’re not (yet) instrumentalist, a new world of musical expression is just a press away. The INSTRUMENT 1 is the first controller that features smart presets: techniques specially designed to allow anyone to begin playing right out of the box. Enjoy Smart Strum, which allows for one-finger chords, a built-in hardware arpeggiator that can create an “auto-pick” effect, and no-wrong-note tunings. Creativity guaranteed.
The INSTRUMENT 1 can hold eight presets (and you can hold an infinite amount on your iPad, iPhone, or computer). There are four factory presets, including Guitar, Violin, Piano, and Drums. Additionally, there are four user presets, which are customizable banks, offering the ability to mix and match modes, methods, tunings, and sounds. This makes INSTRUMENT 1 a powerful, versatile MIDI controller, especially when used with a Digital Audio Workstations such as Logic Pro X, GarageBand, Ableton Live, Reason, Cubase, Pro Tools; and powerful VST plug-ins such as Kontakt and Serum. You’ll be able to create, play, and save your own presets in the Artiphon iOS app (available for free in the Apple Apple Store). Mac and PC user will enjoy the Artiphon INSTRUMENT 1 Editor, also available for free from the Artiphon website.
With its pressure- and velocity-sensitive fingerboard, the INSTRUMENT 1 allows for a new dimension of expressiveness. For instance, you’ll be able to continuously modulate effects even after a note has been triggered. Even string bending is made simple by using inward pressure on this intuitive playing surface. The INSTRUMENT 1 uses MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE), the new MIDI specification that allows for polyphonic, channel-by-channel playability. Used with our multidimensional controller, your music will never be the same. Slide a steel guitar, and add a little vibrato to that synth performance, and conduct the orchestra with one hand.
With a robust list of features, a great community of players around the world, and powerful software to allow for endless customization, the award-winning Artiphon INSTRUMENT 1 has opened a new category of production, performance, and play.
Modulate effects even after you've trigged your note with continuous aftertouch.
Pull-off and hammer-on as you would on a traditional guitar. Now do it with a piano sound.
Control filters and envelopes using natural gestures with Tilt: the INSTRUMENT 1's answer to mod wheel.
Inward pressure allows you to bend the pitch of a note, unlocking a new way to utilize your synth sounds.
Create new patterns and get fresh ideas with the hardware arpeggiator. Tempo and sub-divisions are easy to customize.
I1 will flip automatically depending on the way it's held. Lock it in if you play Albert King-style.
“Music and technology coming together to make something so accessible, so fun. This is what the future looks like now. Get used to it.”
"The point isn’t to substitute a real guitar. It’s to give producers access to another tool: just like the MPC wasn’t meant to replace a drummer or the MIDI controller wasn’t meant to replace the synth."
