Artiphon – Prism – Private Beta Test Page

WELCOME BETA TESTERS

And congratulations on being one of the first to play Prism.

Prism is Artiphon’s new experimental video-making app. We see Orba players film themselves making loops every day, and it led us to think: How can we make this easier? How can we make this more fun? And so, we’re pleased to introduce this private beta version of Prism.

Prism will allow you to record live video with music and visual effects embedded right in. Though Prism was designed for social sharing, we ask that beta testers do not share their video exports with anyone other than the Artiphon team.

MAKE PRISMS

Your job as a beta tester is to make videos! Make as many as you like. Make some with Orba, and some with just your hands (or feet or paws). The rest of this page will go over the app interface and how to play the “instruments.”

MAKE PRISMS

On this page, you'll learn to play the different instruments Prism. You can use your Orba, or just your hands (or feet or paw).

LEND YOUR THOUGHTS

When you’ve had some time to play with Prism, we ask that you fill out the below survey. Here, you’ll also share your Prisms with the Artiphon team. For Prism support, write to beta@artiphon.com.

CONTROLS

Prism Sounds Only

Only record the Prism instrument sounds. This is the default setting.

Microphone Only

Use only your phone's microphone. You might use this to capture your voice or a guitar, but not the Prism sounds.

Prism + Microphone

Use both the Prism sounds and your phone's microphone. This works best with wired headphones, otherwise your phone's microphone will pick up the instrument sounds as well, which can create distortion and an unbalanced mix.

Record

Your Prism can be as long as you like.

Stop Recording

After you press Stop, your video will be saved to your camera roll.

Switch Camera

A musical selfie? Sounds good to us. You can use the back or front-facing camera to make your Prisms.

THE FOUR INSTRUMENTS

Tangram Drums

A drum machine shaped like a Tangram puzzle. To trigger the sounds and visuals, just tap the shapes. If you hold down on a shape, it’ll play a pattern until you release.

Enso Bowl

A singing bowl drone with rainbow aura effects. To play Enso Bowl, simply trace your finger in a circular motion inside the circle. The closer you move to the center of the ring, the more intense the effect becomes.

String Traces

A string orchestra you can play with one finger by tracing around the screen. We’ve composed these chords so that they all work together. You’ll never hear the same pattern twice. Roll over, Beethoven.

Artifact dj

A collection of samples from the audio archives of the Library of Congress. We’ve collected, remixed, and musically curated these samples in a very playable interface, making each slice play a different moment in history – right on the screen.
